Cold Brew Coffee is a popular alternative to a hot cup of coffee. However, this drink is not simply chilled coffee; it has its own brewing method! Read here what cold brew is, what it tastes like, how to make it at home, and which coffee blend is best.

What is Cold Brew Coffee?

As the name suggests, cold brew coffee is a type of coffee that is “brewed” with cold water. In contrast to conventionally brewed coffee, which brews for around 4 to 5 minutes with boiling water, the brewing time for cold brew coffee is between 6 and 12 hours.

What does Cold Brew Coffee Taste Like?

The way the coffee is prepared influences the taste, in addition to the variety. Because the long brewing time releases many aromas, cold brew coffee can taste anything from nutty and fruity to chocolaty.

It also has fewer bitter substances and tastes milder and sweeter. Another unique feature is that it is easier to digest thanks to its low acidity.

Which coffee pot or coffee machine is suitable for this?

With A Brew Jar or Coffee Maker

A brew jar looks like a large mason jar (capacity 64 oz.) with an integrated filter. Preparation is a child’s play with such a jar.

  • Put 3.5 oz. of coarsely ground coffee beans into the filter and fill the jar with 64 oz. of cold water. Then, place the filter in the jar and close it with the lid.
  • Now place the jar in the fridge for 6 to 12 hours and allow the coffee to “brew” or infuse.
  • When the coffee has steeped, you can simply remove the filter and enjoy your coffee.

Cold brew can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks if well sealed.

The mixing ratio between coffee and water should be 1:10. Converted, this means that 3.5 oz. of coffee should be used for 64 oz. of water

Making it with a special coffee maker is the same as making it with a jar. The difference is that coffee makers look like coffee pots.

Which coffee or type of coffee should you use, cold brew coffee?

As mentioned above, it’s not just how you make the coffee that affects the taste, but also which beans or roast you use. Light roasts are particularly suitable for cold brew coffee. For example, a dark roast, such as espresso beans, is not so ideal because many acidic aromas have already been lost due to the dark roast.

It is also important that the coffee beans are coarsely ground.

There are also special cold brew roasts. If you don’t want to make it yourself, you can buy ready-made coffee.

No matter which method you choose to make cold brew coffee, this drink is the perfect refreshment, and not just on hot summer days. If you are looking for other recipes or ideas for a clean lifestyle, check out the other blog posts.
