Dry Shampoos can be lifesavers because sometimes we just don´t have the time to wash our hair. Next to an emergency recipe that you can use with normal kitchen supplies, you can make a homemade dry shampoo that not only absorbs oil but also nourishes your scalp & hair! Find here a homemade dry shampoo recipe that combines oil-absorbing qualities with nourishing benefits, making it a great alternative to commercial dry shampoos.

Homemade Dry Shampoo Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of arrowroot powder: Arrowroot powder is an excellent oil-absorbant. It is particularly gentle and may be more suitable for sensitive scalps.
  • 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay: This helps detoxify the scalp, absorb oil, and provide minerals that can support hair health.
  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder (optional for dark hair): This helps the powder blend seamlessly into dark hair plus it contains antioxidants.
  • 2 tablespoons of oat flour: Oat flour can soothe the scalp, reduce itchiness, and provide a mild conditioning effect.
  • 2-3 drops of essential oil of your choice: Rosemary or lavender essential oils are great for promoting scalp health and hair growth, and they add a pleasant scent.

Homemade Dry Shampoo Instructions:

Blend Dry Ingredients

Mix the arrowroot powder, bentonite clay, and oat flour in a bowl. If you have dark hair, add the cocoa powder to match your hair color.

Incorporate a few drops of your chosen essential oil into the powder mixture. Mix well to ensure the scent is evenly distributed.

How to use it

  • Apply your homemade dry shampoo to the roots of your hair with a makeup brush and work it through with your fingers.
  • Let it sit for a couple of minutes to absorb excess oil.
  • Brush your hair thoroughly to remove any residue, and distribute the powder evenly.
