For many people, autumn is their favorite time of year: the weather gets milder, you can wear cute autumn outfits again, and the pumpkin spice latte is back!

But as delicious as the trendy drink is, a glance at the ingredients list can quickly spoil your appetite … in addition to countless artificial additives, one of the main ingredients is SUGAR.

So that you don’t miss out on the incomparable Pumpkin Spice Latte taste and feeling this fall and winter, find here a recipe for making a low-calorie and even vegan version at home!

Where does the Pumpkin Spice Latte come from?

Before we dive into the recipe, let´s see where our favorite fall drink comes from. I mean, it has been as much a part of fall as rainy days and Halloween.

In the fall of 2003, the American coffee giant Starbucks introduced the Pumpkin Spice Latte for the first time. Since its introduction, the coffee drink has become the most popular seasonal Starbucks drink.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Ingredients

It’s not just the pumpkin spice that provides the incomparable “autumn” taste. A mixture of espresso, pumpkin spice, frothed milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, whipped cream, and lots of sugar rounds off the PSL.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Calories

Buying the pumpkin spice latte as a to-go variant can be a real calorie bomb.  Sugar, whole milk, and cream topping add up to almost 400 calories in a regular Grande PSL. Of these, 10 g are fat and 40 g sugar!

Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe

Making the pumpkin spice latte yourself has several advantages. Not only can you enjoy it all year round, but you know exactly what’s in it and can cut down on unnecessary calories.

A super simple but incredibly authentic and delicious pumpkin spice latte recipe has just 6 ingredients.

Ingredients

To make a pumpkin spice latte, boil the espresso and froth the milk. Pour the frothed milk into a glass or cup and slowly pour in the boiled espresso. Mix the pumpkin puree or pumpkin baby food, sweetener, and pumpkin spice, and add it to the milk and espresso.

You can top your drink with a little whipped cream to taste.

Vegan Recipe

To avoid animal products in your pumpkin spice latte, use plant-based milk instead of cow’s milk. Since the whipped cream is optional, you can either leave it out or use vegan whipped cream. The preparation is the same as for the regular PSL.

Fast To Go Recipe

If you want to prepare the PSL quickly and easily, you can use frothed milk, espresso, and an all-in-one spice.

Preparation is similar here. You froth the milk, make the espresso, mix the two ingredients, and add your spice.

Pumpkin Spice Mix Recipe

You can make your own Pumpkin Spice Latte, and with a few basic ingredients, you can even mix the spice with the typical fall flavor yourself. You only need five ingredients.

To make the spice blend, simply mix the ingredients. It is best to buy the spices in ground form, as the pieces can interfere with drinking.
