Whether as a side dish or main course, a tuna salad is just the thing for those who fancy something spicy. You can make a delicious and protein-rich vegan version of the fish dish with the right ingredients and spices. Read here what ingredients you need and how to turn them into a simple recipe for vegan tuna salad from chickpeas!

Ingredients

You need the right ingredients to make your vegan tuna salad tangy and juicy and to make it taste like fish:

  • 1 tin of chickpeas
  • 1 nori sheet or 1 spoonful of nori flakes
  • 1 small red onion
  • Pickles (quantity to taste)
  • 1½ tbsp vegan mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • lemon juice (amount to taste)

The spices, pickles, onion, etc., provide the seasoning, the vegan mayo helps to make the mixture a little juicier, and the nori sheets are responsible for the fishy taste.

Vegan Tuna Salad from Chickpeas Preparation:

The preparation of the vegan tuna salad from chickpeas is super easy:

Step #1

Cut the onions, pickles, and nori sheets into small cubes.

Step #2

Drain and rinse the chickpeas. Then, place them in a bowl and mash them with a masher until they form a paste.

Tip: Eat the salad fresh. If you were to leave the vegan tuna salad to stand overnight, the onions would give it a bad taste. This means only make as much as you eat.

Step #3

Then, mix all the remaining ingredients into the chickpea mash and mix well.

Your homemade vegan tuna salad tastes excellent on fresh bread.
